Loch Lomond Villa in Saint John is participating in some seniors projects geared towards residents who suffer from dementia.
Earlier this week it was announced one project called ABBY will be used as an interactive way to help out.
CEO Cindy Donovan says the participant will wear a sensor and then walk up to a large electronic screen and that is when then the magic begins.
“All of a sudden what has been programmed into the board becomes their hobbies, where they lived our research assistant has taken a camera and done special videos of the streets where some people have lived,” stated Donovan.
She adds “Maybe the church they have always gone to will show up, so when they actually take the steering wheel on the activity board it actually comes up as a video of them on their street on in their church.”
Donovan says there is even a feature of those who may have had a cherished cat or dog.
“There is a cat with real fur on the board and as soon as they pat the cat a video will pop up of a cat, or maybe it is a dog and family have shared photos of their dogs in the past, so it is all around trying to reminisce with the residents,” stated Donovan.
