A People’s Alliance bill calling for changes to the Motor Vehicle Act has passed third reading in the legislature but the party’s leader says it is just a partial victory.
Under Bill 18, motor vehicle inspections will not be required on new vehicles during the first three years. All other vehicles will be inspected every two years instead of annually.
Kris Austin also wanted to put an end to annual motor vehicle registrations and instead only require them when a vehicle is sold or transferred to a new owner.
“Unfortunately, we didn’t get the registrations passed. Conservatives, Liberals and Greens all basically went against that part,” said Austin.
But Austin said he is pleased with the changes to motor vehicle inspections and vowed to continue the fight for the registration changes.
