The opioid crisis in Canada continues to grow and no province is safe based on a recent report by the Public Health Agency of Canada.
More than 11,500 Canadians died from apparent-opioid-related overdoses between January 2016 and December 2018 according to the report.
Data also shows that last year 4,460 people died and many of these deaths were related to the contamination of the illegal drug supply.
The number of total apparent opioid-related deaths in New Brunswick was 27.
British Columbia has the highest fatality rate, totaling 1,525 deaths.
In 2018, 73 per cent of accidental apparent opioid-related deaths involved fentanyl or fentanyl analogues.
