There is a naval presence in Greater Moncton for the first time in over 45 years.
HMCS Brunswicker has opened a satellite office to assist its members living in the region.
Commodore Michael Hopper says as the satellite grows its trained personnel will be able to provide a more rapid response if called upon for an emergency.
“{During} the recent flooding in New Brunswick we had personnel in Saint John who were on standby ready to assist if required. The more people we have spread out across the province it just enables us to respond that much faster when incidents occur.” Hopper said.

The last full-time naval base was in Coverdale, but it closed in 1971.
This Moncton satellite is also the first of its kind for Canada’s navy.
