Today is bitter-sweet. It’s time to say “Goodbye” to our sweet little camper.
Words can’t tell you how much I love camping. But you know this, you’ve heard me talk about it a million times. Picture it, sitting partially shaded in a comfy chair, sunglasses on, a warm light breeze carrying the scent of the last night’s campfire. The only sounds you notice are nearby birds with laughter and splashing in the distance.
My happy place.
We bought the tent trailer four years ago as an introduction to camping. Y’know, to see if we liked it. A “test drive”. Now, we’re all in! So much so, that this year we decided it was time to upgrade. It sounded like a great idea. More space, a little more modern with some extra conveniences.
I put our reliable little workhorse of a camper on Kijiji. It sold in six minutes. SIX! I’m not sure I was expecting that. A sweet family came to have a look and they bought it. It was so exciting…at first. Then I realized we weren’t just selling our camper, we were selling our little piece of heaven in the woods. All the memories….
THAT’s when I got sentimental.
We had such great times in that camper! Remember our first outing? I’m sure I told you about it. We didn’t know about “stabilizer” legs and it tipped. Twice.
Or the time we cranked her up in a Walmart parking lot in Quebec for the night. We were exhausted. Sometime later, as we slept, a car load of teenagers drove past us honking their horn and hurling words at us that I didn’t understand. (My fluently bilingual daughters tell me they were yelling “Wake up losers“.)
And in Ottawa, when we blew a tire on the trailer and spent most of that vacation day sweating on the side of the road waiting for help. Wow. Was it EVER hot that day.
I guess the point of my story is that we make all kinds of memories as we travel through life, and there will always be room for more.
So, onward and upward with our NEW hybrid trailer. I can’t WAIT to make new stories to share. (But please, don’t yell at me when I’m sleeping.)
