Montreal-based CaSa plans to open a local office in Saint John as it develops the Integrated System Manager for Saint John Energy’s smart grid project.
Saint John Energy vice-president Ryan Mitchell says the ISM is a machine-learning algorithm which can predict energy demand and it has been described as a smart grid’s central nervous system.
“Basically that’s an advanced piece of software that is going to help determine and optimize Saint John Energy’s distribution system,” Mitchell said.

CaSA Chief Executive Officer Martin Fassier explains it as well.
“The device itself will profile the usage and make certain decisions or propose certain scenarios for the consumer,” Fassier said.
He says dealing with Saint John Energy is a chance to showcase their solutions.
“I am pretty sure this project that Saint John Energy is putting forward now will literally act as a beacon of light for other utilities in North America that are struggling with what direction to take with their programs.”
In early May, Saint John Energy announced a deal with Open Systems International to create a smart control centre to track and control smart consumer products with more efficiency.
