The city will be spending just over $200,000 on a playground in Rainbow Park.
Signature Landscaping Ltd., will be building the new accessible playground in the South End, in collaboration with Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities.
Signature Landscape was the lowest bidder on the project.
City council entered into an agreement with Jumpstart last month for the 1 million dollar state of the art park.
The charity will be providing $800,000 for the project, and the city will undertake site preparation, landscaping, site security, and inspection among other responsibilities for the playground installation.
The city’s anticipated investment in the build is around $250,000 plus HST, as a result of the low tender, a recommended 10% contingency, and the project design costs.
Jumpstart’s playground will replace the existing playground equipment at Rainbow Park, which has been there since the 90’s and has reached the end of its useful life.
The city says that while the Jumpstart Playground is more robust than what the City had previously or would have replaced on its own, the project eliminates a portion of the City’s current infrastructure deficit.
It also says that investing in this new playground at Rainbow Park will align with PlaySJ’s vision of higher quality neighbourhood playgrounds.
