Saint John firefighters spent about 90 minutes fighting a fire at an east side church late Thursday afternoon.
The call came in around 4:45 p.m. for the structure fire at 101 Wilton Street.
Platoon Chief Barry Oickle says arriving crews found fire on the outside wall of the Living Faith centre at the corner of Wilton Street and Park Avenue.
He says the fire moved inside travelling up a wall.
“It was proceeding to the roof line. Our crews managed to get inside relatively quickly and pull the old-style slat walls down and extinguish the fire before it could actually get into the roof life which ultimately saved the church.” Oickle said.
No one was hurt and Oickle tells us fire investigators are looking into the cause.
