Social Development Minister Dorothy Shephard is not pleased with the actions of CUPE members at her department’s office in Fredericton.
In a statement, Shephard says she is “very disappointed” that CUPE has resorted to tactics and she says these actions have resulted in bullying toward Social Development employees.
She also finds it confusing as CUPE members should be aware, the mediator has asked both sides to return to the table.
Shephard says the provincial government remains committed to productive negotiations with nursing home workers.
The mediator has suggested meeting dates of May 9th or 14th and Shephard says the government has confirmed their availability for both dates.
She says media stunts are not necessary to get the province back to the table adding CUPE members occupying the Social Development building are impacting the ability of their clients to meet with staff.
She adds by inviting the media into the building they are compromising privacy which she says is not acceptable.
