More work is required before a section of the Trans Canada Highway can be re-opened to traffic.
Route 2 between Exit 306 at Oromocto and Exit 423 at River Glade closed last week due to flooding.
Provincial EMO Director Greg MacCallum says the water is essentially off the road but, it’s still not good to go yet.
“It needs to be cleaned up and then it needs to be assessed for safety purposes.” MacCallum expects more information on that later this week.
While in Saint John, MacCallum said the water is dangerous both for navigation purposes and for consumption.
“If you are around the water or you are exposed to the water, make sure you practice really good hygiene and clean it up. If your personal wellhead has been compromised, get your water tested and that is available from the Department of Environment and Local government.” MacCallum said.
MacCallum offered thanks to the members of the military who have been helping during the flood response saying they have provided “tremendous assistance” calling it a great example of collaboration.
