After a wage increase sparked outrage amongst early childhood educators, it appears Dominic Cardy has had a change of heart.
The education and early childhood development minister tweeted Wednesday that one-year ECE certificate holders will now be eligible for the 75-cent per hour wage increase.
I am very happy that government will soon announce that one year ECE certificate holders will now be eligible for the 75 cent per hour wage increase. Stay tuned and thank you to the ECE workers for standing up for their work and the children of New Brunswick.

The increase was announced last week, but only those who’ve completed a two-year college diploma or a bachelor’s degree in ECE or a related field were eligible.
The two-year program was only recently made available in New Brunswick, and most early childhood educators have only completed the one-year program and wouldn’t be entitled to the increase.
Our newsroom has asked Cardy’s office for an interview to get more details.
