The city will be spending almost 7 million dollars on road care and asphalt this year after approving two tender contracts on Monday’s council meeting.
Saint John has awarded a contract for this spring’s asphalt resurfacing work to Galbraith Construction Ltd., for just under $6 million. They were the lowest tender bid out of four other construction companies.
Asphalt resurfacing work is scheduled for 34 streets or sections of streets this year, including Manawagonish Road, Westmorland Road, Rothesay Avenue, and several uptown streets like Charlotte, King Square North, King Square South and Sydney.
The contract also includes the installation of approximately 8,557 metres of concrete curbing and 3,563 metres of sidewalks.
The city will also spend almost $1 million on what’s called asphalt concrete mixed, with Galbraith Construction and NRB Construction being awarded the tender.
This product is used for things like asphalt restoration of water cuts, roadway and sidewalk repairs, roadway overlays, and other maintenance projects.
