The River Valley Community Centre in Grand Bay is stepping off the ice.
As the season winds down and they start to close the ice rink, they’re looking to expand their recreation programs outside of just skating, and are asking for the public’s feedback.
Brittany Merrifield with the community centre says the feedback will help them tailor programming to residents’ wants and needs.
“It’s important for us, if we’re going to develop a comprehensive recreational program, to know exactly what the community needs, what they want and where the holes in programming currently are,” she said in an interview.
The community centre has posted a survey on it’s Facebook page where people can provide feedback and ideas.
Merrifield says revamping the programming is something she’s wanted to do for quite some time. They hope to include more tailored programs geared toward youth and seniors.
“We’re looking at inter-generational programming too to bring the younger generation and the older generation together, to hopefully increase social inclusion for our seniors,” she said.
As well, Merrifield says they’re hoping to make the programming accessible to people of all levels of income in the community.
“We’re attempting to do as much as we can at low to no cost so that it reduces the barriers to participation from everybody in our area.”
