A bad news Friday with word almost 250 call centre employees at S&P Data operations in Saint John and Edmundston have been laid off.
Chief Operating Officer David Borts tells CHSJ News the decision comes after the company suddenly lost it’s the only client.
“They kind of left us in the lurch. Unfortunately we had to make a business choice and a difficult business choice to lay off our staff while we work to backfill that business with another client.” Borts says.
Borts says the sites are not closed and each site will maintain a skeleton crew of staff of about 5 workers.
The locations in Saint John and Edmundston both opened within the last year.
S&P Data received help from Opportunities New Brunswick in setting up their operations and in Saint John, they took over the former Sears call centre space in Loch Lomond Place following its closure.
