A new event next month in Saint John aims to connect people and resources that can make a real difference in their lives.
Constable Duane Squires of the Crime Reduction Team through the Saint John Police Force is bringing non-profits, community groups and government agencies under one roof to explain what they do and how they help people.
Squires tells us navigating community resources comes up a lot in his work.
“Sometimes it takes a little bit of courage to ask for help. Sometimes there are cycles that people live in and if we can push them in a certain direction or guide them a certain way out of that cycle and get them the help that they need”.
Various agencies will be offered exhibit space and up to 15 groups will also be selected to make an elevator-style pitch of 5 minutes to those on hand.
The event has been put together in a few short weeks with agencies like Horizon Health, PULSE Inc and the Human Development Council taking part.
The “Together We Care” event is Thursday, April 11th from 1 pm to 4 pm at the Marco Polo Cruise Ship Terminal.
Exhibit space is available on a first come first serve basis, to get involved, call Mary Lesage at PULSE Inc. at 506-632-6807.
