There’s still some uncertainty as to whether nursing home workers will be able to strike later this week.
During a court appearance yesterday, Justice Paulette Garnett rescinded the 10 day stay order, that had prevented them from walking off the job.
This was a victory for the workers.
But hours later, the province said it plans to appeal, and a Justice in the New Brunswick court of appeal agreed to extend the stay until Thursday.
Whether or not the workers will be able to strike, will depend on the appeal.
In a statement, the New Brunswick Association of Nursing Homes adds, the two sides, remain at the bargaining table with the goal of reaching an agreement without labour action.
Social Development Minister Dorothy Shephard says while she supports the workers’ ability to strike, the health and safety of nursing home residents remains her primary concern.
