Canada is well positioned to move ahead with the legalisation of marijuana according to Task Force Chair Anne McLellen. The task force on legalisation has made 80 recommendations to the Trudeau Government with legislation expected next spring.
The former federal justice minister is recommending the government proceed with caution, warning there will be surprises. She says the task force believes there should be a diversity of producers, both big and small.
McLellen says there should be more research into the medical benefits of marijuana and its therapeutic potential.
The task force is recommending the legal age for buying marijuana legally should be 18.
