A Nauwigewauk dairy farmer wanted to see a new steel modular bridge built instead of the covered bridge at Hammond River on Route 860 at the end of the French Village Road being repaired.
Micheal O’Brien can drive over the bridge from his farm to his fields in 15 minutes but without having access to the bridge crossing will mean having to go all the way around on a journey that could last over 2 hours with a full load.
He says the decision to repair the bridge after an excavator crashed through the decking in October is devastating for his farm because there won’t be any crossing in place for his next year’s crops.
O’Brien also is unsure about what the new height and weight restrictions will be.
