The number of people who were working in New Brunswick last month went down as the unemployment rate provincially went up from 9.3 to 10 per cent according to Stats Canada. It’s still at 7 per cent nationally even though employment increased by 44,000 in October as a result of more part time work.
Women 55 and older recorded the largest increase in employment. There was also an increase in part time work for young people aged 15 to 24 but their unemployment rate is stuck at 13 per cent. Employment for men between the ages of 25 and 54 increased slightly.
Saint John recorded an increase in its unemployment rate from 7.3 to 7.6 per cent while Moncton stayed the same at 6.9 per cent.
