Twelve jurors have been chosen from a pool of hundreds in Campbellton in the trial for a Quebec man accused of criminal negligence in the deaths of two young brothers.
Thirty-nine-year-old Jean-Claude Savoie was charged after an African rock python escaped its enclosure at the Reptile Ocean pet store and killed six-year-old Connor Barthe and his four-year-old brother Noah in August 2013.
Savoie used to own the store and the boys were sleeping in an upstairs apartment where it was determined they were strangled by the python.
Due to how unique the case is in Canada, RCMP consulted with experts familiar with African rock pythons during their investigation before Savoie was charged in March 2015.
The judge will give instructions to the jury on Tuesday morning.
The trial is expected to last two weeks.
