Interim Provincial Progressive Conservative leader Bruce Fitch and other M-L-A’s have taken to twitter to express his condolences upon hearing renowned heart surgeon Dr. Jim Parrot has died.
In his tweet, Fitch calls Dr. Parrot a great friend, great MLA and great doctor who saved many lives.
Dr. Parrot was elected as a Conservative MLA in 2010 for Fundy-River Valley. He clashed with then Premier David Alward over the government’s policies on health care and bilingualism before being expelled from the Conservative party caucus. He sat as an independent before returning and running unsuccessfully in the last provincial election as a Conservative.
Dr. Parrot, himself, underwent successful quadruple bypass surgery in 2012 after having been the leading force behind establishing the New Brunswick Heart Centre at the Regional Hospital as a centre of excellence.
Former Health Minister Mike Murphy describes him as being a kind man with a soft heart in spite of his gruff exterior and the province was lucky he came here to be a doctor.
