A retired RCMP officer from Saint John faces a maximum of 20 years in prison after pleading guilty in Bangor to 10 charges of money laundering.
59 year old Gregory Logan was indicted in November of 2012 on charges of conspiracy, smuggling and money laundering.
All of the charges arose from a scheme to smuggle narwhal whale tusks, valued at between 1.5 and 3 million dollars, from Canada to the U.S. for sale to American customers and then transfer the proceeds of those sales back to Canada.
Besides a stretch in prison, Logan faces fines of half a million dollars on each charge.
