The Trudeau Government should use its political capital to move pipeline projects forward. That message was delivered to the Senate Committee on the transport of crude oil by Ross McKitrick of the Frontier Centre for Public Policy.
He argues new pipelines would be good for the economy and also for national unity. McKitrick warns resentment out west will grow if pipeline projects are blocked.
McKitrick adds the crude oil will still be transported but the means will be less safe, costlier and more damaging to the environment than pipelines.
According to the National Energy Board, oil by rail shipments will increase tenfold by 2041 if no new pipelines are built.
