The warm weather had to come to an end at some point, and if you’re someone who has a pool in your backyard…it’s probably time to start thinking about closing it up for the summer.
Owner of Eagles Pool Services in Riverview Corey Eagles says he has around 150 winterizing jobs booked already, “We’re starting closings now. We have about a month and a half to two months of worth of closings to do. We’re trying to get everything done as fast as we can.”
If the prediction from the Old Farmer’s Almanac holds true, we could end up seeing a lot of snow and colder temperatures this winter. Eagles says they always try to prepare for the worst when closing a pool, “We do tend to try and look at the long range forecast. If there is a lot of rain coming when we pump them out, we tend to pump a little more out of them because they’ll fill up before they freeze up.”
Safety covers can be one thing that helps protect an inground pool from a lot of snow, but sometimes, it is out of their control.
Two years ago, many pools were damaged over the winter months, because of the amount of snow that fell. Eagles says, “With all of the snow we had, I don’t think anything could have been done to prevent some of the damage. It’s just the climate we live in. Most of us Maritimers have learned to deal with that as best we can.”
