The leaves are already starting to change colour in New Brunswick as autumn officially arrives today at 11:21-am our time (Atlantic).
But how vibrant those hues of red, yellow and orange become depends a lot on the weather.
Forest Ecologist Anthony Taylor says the leaves begin to change colour and drop off due to a physiological response in the trees which is triggered by less daylight.
Taylor says the most brilliant colours are usually found after a long growing season in the summer and normal rainfall.
However, he says conditions were drier than normal in much of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia this year which usually means the leaves will likely fall earlier and won’t be as brilliant.
