September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and a Federal Liberal MP has recognized the efforts of a New Brunswick MLA in the legislature.
MP for Gatineau, Quebec Steven McKinnon made mention of Chris Collins who is currently cycling across Canada as a part of the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride, “In 2007, my friend, your colleague, and current speaker of the New Brunswick Legislative Assembly, Chris Collins, lost his son Sean, after a four-year battle with cancer. Since Sean’s passing, Mr. Collins has been dedicated to raising funds and awareness for childhood cancer research in Canada. He is currently cycling through his second cross-country charity bike ride. I encourage all of you to support his efforts by donating to the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride.”
According to statistics, in Canada over 10, 000 children are currently living with cancer and 1500 will be diagnosed with cancer this year. Unfortunately, one in ten of them will not survive.
Only 3 per cent of all cancer research dollars go to childhood cancer.
@stevenmackinnon Thanks for speaking up in the House of Commons on behalf of kids with cancer today & the need for #morethan3 #MaggieProject
