The National Energy Board’s credibility has taken a hit in the eyes of many with the panel members stepping away from the review of the proposed Energy East Pipeline. This follows a meeting they had with former Quebec Premier Jean Charest who was working for the pipeline advocate, Trans Canada.
Gordon Dalzell of the Coalition for Clean Air appeared before the hearing in Saint John to voice his concerns about emissions from the proposed tank farm in Red Head. He says the panel members exercised bad judgement even though they claim to have been unaware of Charest’s ties to Trans Canada.
Dalzell still believes the review can be conducted fairly by the National Energy Board which will have to form a new panel. He thinks the evaluation of the project will have to start from square one.
