The United Way of Saint John, Kings and Charlotte county setting an ambitious goal to raise $1.5 million dollars.
Campaign chair Victoria Clarke says more funding means all these agencies can do more.
She says more funding means they get to take the responsibility of raising funds from these organizations their expertise is in mentoring, teaching and comforting allowing them to do what they do best and they United Way can do what they do.
Clarke says that is strengthening through funding and mentoring not for profit organizations so they and their boards can be stronger.
A full crowd at the Delta met Trish Nickerson who told her powerful story of suffering years of abuse and the help she found through the Women’s Empowerment Network.
She used to be intimidated by women and after she spent time there she found all the women involved were very supportive every day giving each other positive feedback.
Nickerson took courses on budgeting and also learned about politics and was surprised to find she would be interested in it.
Following her speech, the capacity crowd gave her a standing ovation.
