Rothesay M-L-A Ted Flemming says there’s much more to the bankruptcy of Atcon than has been told to provincial taxpayers thus far.
Auditor-General Kim Macpherson wants to do an audit to find out what happened to 70 million dollars in government assistance to Atcon but the provincial government won’t provide the necessary funding to do so. Flemming says if this happened with a private company, there would be a shareholder revolt because it leaves the impression there’s something to hide.
He claims the government could take 400 thousand dollars from its 150 million dollar contingency fund to pay for the audit.
The Atcon group of companies received massive amounts of government aid when Liberal Shawn Graham was Premier but Flemming says that went against the advice of six deputy ministers.
