The New Brunswick Student Alliance is applauding the provincial government’s action plan for post secondary education in the province.
Their intentions were included in the recently released Economic Growth plan.
It included plans to reduce student loan debt and ways to expand the capacity of the province’s institutions to attract and recruit out of province and international students.
Executive Director Robert Burroughs is welcoming to see the government include these in their plan, in particular debt reduction.
He says students graduating with debt in New Brunswick owe an average of $35,200, that’s the highest in Canada and well above the national average. and he believes such high debt levels have been linked to slow economic growth and outmigration.
