Training has been gruelling, and it will be a long trip back home, but the MLA for Moncton Centre says it will all be worth it.
Chris Collins is flying out West today….to join a team of cyclists who are taking part in the Sears National Kids Cancer ride, “I’ll be greeting the group coming into Winnipeg on the 13th, and I’ll be leaving with them to cycle with them to the Ontario border. I’ll be riding in a peloton that does 170 kilometres a day, which is significantly easier than riding by yourself.” The second day I’ll be visiting the Terry Fox memorial, which is very emotional.”
Collins, who is also the Speaker of the New Brunswick Legislature, says the riders will be cycling all the way to Halifax.
He knows it will be tough, but his special thoughts and determination will keep him going, “The memory of my son Son, and certainly when I think about kids who have gone through successful treatments, tough treatments for cancer. Cancer takes the lives of more children than all other diseases combined.”
Collins lost his son Sean nine years ago to cancer.

He is expected to arrive back in Moncton on September 22nd, and then he’ll finish his trip by cycling to Halifax.
He has vowed to continue the fight to raise awareness of children’s cancer, and the funds for research to help find a cure.
