There is a link between vision health and learning that Canadian optometrists want parents to know about as school starts.
Dr. Krista McDevitt says the biggest misconception for parents is that their child is reading well and understanding what they see on the page but that doesn’t mean everything is okay.
She says the problem is that what the child is seeing is not telling us what strain the visual system is under.
She recommends an eye exam by the age of 3 to detect any problems early enough to prevent them from interfering with learning.
