A significant majority of Canadians support the idea of a basic income welfare system, according to a poll from Angus Reid.
However, almost six in ten believe it would be too expensive to put realistically function.
Furthermore, only 34% would be willing to pay higher taxes to support a basic income program.
When asked about the current welfare system in Canada, 46% say it’s moderately to very ineffective.
In contrast, a little over one in three say it is working effectively.
There were some differences in support for those depending on their political affiliation.
Levels of support also varied depending on the amount of money included in the basic income project.
