The average Canadian family spends more on taxes than on housing, food and clothing combined.
That’s the result of a study by the Fraser Institute who says over the last 54 years, the tax bill has increased 152.9% when you account for inflation.
In 2015, the income for an average Canadian family was $80,593.
They paid $34,154 of taxes, compared to $30,293 for the basic necessities.
Of the 42.4% of family income that goes to taxes, a little under one third is income tax, with 21% accounted for by payroll and health taxes.
