The Saint John Alpines beat the Moncton Fisher Cats 7-1 to finish the regular season. Playoffs begin September 1st.
The LA Angels beat the Yankees 2-nothing, the Jays lost to the Indians 3-2, the Tigers beat the Red Sox 10-5 and the Astros beat the Orioles 5-3. The Jays lead the AL east, the Red Sox are a half game back.
Elsewhere,the Mets beat the Giants 2-0, the Rockies downed the Cubs 11-4, the Padres pummeling the D-Backs 9-1, the Dodgers over the Reds 4-nothing, the Brewers got by the Mariners 7-6, the Rays over the Rangers 8-4, the Braves got by the Nationals 7-6.
Catharine Pendrel of Harvey Station won a bronze medal in the women’s cross-country mountain bike race at the Rio Olympics. She crashed early in the race, but still managed a podium finish. Canadian athletes head home from Rio with 22 medals. Swimmer Penny Oleksiak, the golden Penny, was Canada’s flagbearer in the closing ceremonies after win 4 medals including a gold. Sprinter Andre De Grasse leaves with 3 medals in his first Olympics. The Canadian team finished 20th in the standings exceeding expectations.
