The Union representing Educational Support Staff is applauding the provincial government’s decision to reverse 2.9 million dollars in cuts to school libraries and intervention programs. Sandy Harding of the Canadian Union of Public Employees tells CHSJ News this is a start but it still doesn’t go far enough.
The initial cuts to the school districts meant the loss of about 300 library assistants, teachers assistants, and behavioural intervention workers, while close to 300 more would have seen their hours reduced. Harding says she’s working with government to see how the reversal of some cuts will work out by September.
