Saint John has too many reasons to be very wary of child predators.
One tool parents can use is a contract for safe internet use to be completed whenever a child gets a cell phone, iPad or any device that connects them to the web.
Kevin Leahy of the RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit says the contract facilitates a conversation about what the limits will be with respect to use.
He tells CHSJ News the contract can detail the time of use, where the child would use it, the sites they might visit and the type of apps they download.
Leahy says it came up in a community workshop held in the City that many parents are often unaware of their child’s activity online and are also shocked by it.
