The dog that won the hearts of Canada on Tuesday will keep working with the RCMP.
As you might expect, the Mounties has been receiving many requests to know the future of Constable Dave Ross’ police service dog, Danny.
Ross became involved in the RCMP Police Dog Service Training Centre in Innisfail, Alberta in 2008 and started working with Danny in December of 2012.
They graduated in late August last year meaning they spent less than a year of service together when Danny lost his partner.
Dave’s wife Rachael says when Danny barked at home it would be to get Dave to open the truck door so they could go to work.
She adds it wouldn’t be fair to Danny to retire him as he loved his work as much as Dave did.
It’s unusual for a police service dog to change handlers but it has happened a few times when officers left the program or retired.
