Saint John Waterfront Development is in talks to open the now-closed Barbour General Store at the foot of King Street as a half-museum half-retail store that sells local goods.
That’s according to General Manager Kent McIntyre who tells us they’re in the midst of dealing with two individuals interested in doing something with the store and he expects they will see proposals from them this week. McIntyre says they want to maintain the whole vision and aspect of a general store where they sold local goods and local fare.
McIntyre says they’re doing this as a pilot project and it if works they will look at something long term.
Waterfront Development leases the store from the Barbour family and maintains the building. It’s been closed since last summer.
