It shouldn’t surprise anyone to hear that two ceremonies are coming up in Saint John today to mark the 70th anniversary of D-Day.
At 10am on the west side, vets and students from Sussex Elementary will plant over 700 marigolds at the Ridgewood Veteran’s Hospital in honour of Canadian veterans and to commemorate the 70th anniversary of D-Day.
At the same time uptown, the cenotaph in King Square will be re-dedicated to the Afghanistan War veterans and a Memorial service will be held for the first Canadian killed in Word War 1. He was a Saint John officer with the British Army.
At 11am, participants including veterans, HMCS Brunswicker, the 2nd battalion Royal Canadian regiment and others head to the dedication of a Royal Canadian Air Force memorial at the Jervis Bay-Ross Memorial Park on the Loch Lommond Road.
A reception will follow at the Simonds Lions Den in the Loch Lomond Villa.
