Over 400 employees at Co-op Atlantic will soon be out of work, after an announcement this week, that the company will close its remaining four corporately owned grocery stores in Atlantic Canada.
One of those is located on Mapleton Road in Moncton. The others are in Grand Bay-Westfield, New Brunswick, Charlottetown, PEI, and Labrador City, Newfoundland.
Interim CEO Brian Inglis says, “This is part of the continuing plan to exit the food and retail gas sector and continue our focus on our agricultural, bulk fuel and housing businesses.”
Co-op’s intention to exit the food and retail gas business was previously announced in April this year.
