A new sculpture was formally unveiled today on our Saint John waterfront. Local sculptor Peter Powning’s piece, Shards of Time, is located on the harbour Passage just past Fort LaTour.
Peter Buckland tells CHSJ News it was originally commissioned to mark Saint John 225, but its installation was delayed by work on the Harbour Bridge.
Sculptor Peter Powning tells CHSJ News he was going for a historical, artefact-like appearance, using the shards of pottery discovered at archaeological sites throughout New Brunswick as inspiration. A bronze band featuring impressions of more artefacts in a rough timeline runs around the sides of the piece.
