The Energy East pipeline would grow the New Brunswick economy to the tune of $3-billion.
That from Energy East vice-president John Van Der Put speaking during the official opening of Port Days Saint John. In his presentation it was revealed that 2300 jobs would be created in development and construction and 150 in operations.
His presentation also revealing that while Canada has the third largest oil reserves in the world, Eastern Canadian refineries import approximately 700,000 barrels per day of oil. He says if those refineries were able to secure their supply from Western Canada instead, that money would stay in Canada to stimulate economic growth here at home.
Van Der Put says we have a choice to make between the status quo or Energy East.
