Today, it’s a sea of red, but the day that our honoured officers were laid to rest, it was a sea of blue ribbons.
The idea of wearing a blue ribbon in honour of the fallen officers grew right across the country.
Elizabeth Rybak organized the campaign, and she says it was because people of Greater Moncton wanted something to show the RCMP officers and families that we supported them.
She says over two days, volunteers came together and helped make over 28, 000 blue ribbons in time for the RCMP funeral.
The idea of a blue ribbon directly came from the memorial ribbon that RCMP wear when they attend funerals of fallen officers.
