A draft climate agreement was reached over the weekend at the Climate Change Summit in Paris but there was still no agreement on how much the average global temperature should be able to rise. Many developing nations want it to be no more than 1.5 degrees celsius while industrialised countries are comfortable with a rise of 2 degrees celcius.
NB Power President and C-E-O Gaetan Thomas says the utility will be up to 40 per cent use of renewable energy by 2020. He’s also a major advocate of using electric cars.
The draft agreement wasn’t clear cut as it had numerous competing options that have to be sorted out.
Meantime, environmenalist Catherine Abreu of the Ecology Action Centre in Halifax is excited about the big changes that are in the works for how electricity is delivered in the future. Abreu can see a wide variety of sources being utilised including wind, solar, hydro electricity, tidal power and geothermal with power being stored for future use when needed.
