With New Brunswick able to accomodate 1500 of the 25,000 refugees coming to Canada, Saint John Mayor Mel Norton, at a briefing, issuing a call to action to “respond to the humanitarian crisis affecting Syrian refugees”
Norton says, “it is a call to all non-profit, labour, business, government, community groups and individuals to mobilize, and more importantly, to act.”
Norton says that Saint John has built a reputation as a haven for people around the globe.
President of the YMCA of Greater Saint John Shilo Boucher saying that over the past few weeks they have been working closely with provincial and federal government partners to prepare for a significant influx in the number of government assisted refugees destined for Saint John.
Boucher says their team is prearing for upwards of 500 and as low as 250 people.
