New apartments created out of the old St. Vincent’s school on Cliff Street are set to open in less than two years.
The Cathedral restoration is underway nearby.
Kevin McDonald is chair of the St Vincent’s Apartment and he says part of the building will come down adding it was built in the early 1900’s.
He says the backside will come off and what they call the flytower over the auditorium will come down and a new wing will be constructed and a daycare.
McDonald says they will be working closely with the Department of Social Development to find families for the subsidized units.
He says they have a few thousands chairs from the old auditorium and anyone interested in buying them can get in touch so they don’t end up in the landfill.
Some of those chairs will be used in the hallways of the new complex and the daycare’s operator Heather Hamilton is refurnishing some for use there.
