Dennis Oland testifying at his second-degree murder trial that he and his father, high-profile businessman Richard Oland, had “a great time” during a meeting between the two the day before his bludgeoned body was discovered face down in a pool of blood.
Dennis Oland, who was called by the defence to testify, telling the jury that it was “a very engaging and wonderful conversation” that they had on July 6, 2011. He says he had been greeted by his father with a handshake. Dennis Oland asked about the conversation, saying that it was “how you doing, how’s family history stuff, yes, that’s why I’m here to get the log book…”

Dennis Oland confirming that he visited his father’s office on Canterbury Street in Saint John three times on July 6, and parked in three different locations.
After meeting with his father, Dennis Oland says he left at 6:12pm, then realized he forgot a log book and went back to his office. Dennis Oland says his father made him go over it with him. He says he then left, got in his car, and received a call from his wife Lisa at 6:36pm asking where he was. Dennis testifying that she was upset because she had not received a 6:12pm that went to Dennis’ sister, “so she didn’t have a clue where I was.”
Dennis Oland testifies he drove out to the Renforth Wharf to see if his kids were there. While there he says he picked up some broken beer bottles. He testifies he then went home, he changed clothes, and he and his wife went out to Kennebecasis Drugs and Cochran’s Country Market.
It’s expected Dennis Oland will be back on the stand on Wednesday morning at 9:30 when the trial resumes at the Saint John Law Courts.
