Quispamsis native Anderson MacDonald was drafted 10th overall by the Sherbrooke Phoenix at the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft.
Anderson was the first New Brunswicker taken in the draft and is now the highest pick in Saint John Vito’s franchise history.
He admits he was a little disappointed he wasn’t drafted by the Sea Dogs, but says moving away might benefit his hockey career because there’s less pressure compared to playing at home in front of family and friends.
The Sea Dogs held the 11th overall pick and MacDonald says he was told by GM Darrell Young that they tried to trade up for him.
Saint John selected forward Oliver Mathieu with their 11th overall selection.
MacDonald says he’s looking forward to training camp in Sherbrooke and meeting his teammates.
