Carole Marie Caillouette wiping away tears during her sentencing in provincial court for the armed robbery of a taxi driver in the South end of the city a couple of months ago.
According to the statement of facts read in the courtroom, Caillouette had gotten into a cab around 3 in the morning on March 9 with her face covered from the eyes down with a scarf.
Once the cab driver took her to the area of Duke and Pitt and told her what she owed for the fare, Caillouette held out a knife and told the woman, “I’m sorry but I’m going to ask you for your money.” She then took off with a small amount of cash towards Tin Can Beach. She was arrested soon after.
Cailouette’s statement to police revealing that she had recently become addicted to smoking crack cocaine and desperately needed money to pay her landlord so she could keep her apartment.
A sentence of two years and three months in prison being handed down to Caillouette by Judge James McNamee.
Judge McNamee telling Cailloutte,”If you don’t take care of the drug addiction we could write a script for you—and it’s not pretty.”
